Rajasthan, which is troubled by heavy rains, is expected to get relief on Sunday. Heavy rains are likely to stop in many districts and divisions of the state. There is a strong possibility of clear skies and sunshine in most parts of these divisions during August 17 to 22. Another round of heavy rains may come in the last week of August. On the other hand, Delhi may receive light rain on Sunday. However, the sky will remain cloudy. The Meteorological Department has issued an orange alert for different parts of 14 states. A warning has been issued regarding heavy rains in Kerala.

Orange alert in these states

West Bengal, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, Tripura, Jharkhand, Tamil Nadu, Uttarakhand, Kerala, Karnataka, Jammu, Assam, Meghalaya, Uttar Pradesh

Delhi’s condition

The maximum temperature in Delhi on Saturday was recorded at 35.5 degrees Celsius, which is 1.5 degrees above normal. According to the Meteorological Department, the minimum temperature was recorded at 27.2 degrees Celsius, which is normal for this season. Humidity remained between 74 percent and 92 percent. The Meteorological Department has predicted cloudy skies and light rain on Sunday. The maximum and minimum temperatures are likely to be around 36 and 27 degrees Celsius respectively. According to data from the Central Pollution Control Board, the 24-hour Air Quality Index (AQI) in the national capital was recorded at 74 at 4 pm, which falls in the “satisfactory” category.

Heavy rains predicted in Kerala

The India Meteorological Department has forecast heavy rains and strong winds in Kerala during the next five days and issued an orange alert in four districts. Intermittent rains continued at isolated places in many parts of the state on Saturday. Water levels in many rivers, including Manimala and Pamba, rose. According to the IMD, an ‘orange alert’ was issued in Pathanamthitta, Kottayam, Idukki and Ernakulam districts, where heavy rainfall is expected. It said that Kottayam, Idukki, Kozhikode, Pathanamthitta and Ernakulam districts have been categorized as ‘orange alert’ for Sunday and Monday respectively. An ‘orange alert’ is issued when rainfall is expected to be between 11 cm and 20 cm. Meanwhile, the weather department said light to moderate rainfall and gusty winds up to 40 kmph are likely at one or two places in Thiruvananthapuram, Kollam, Pathanamthitta, Alappuzha, Kottayam, Idukki, Ernakulam and Thrissur districts in the coming hours.
