Sky-borne havoc in Odisha
At least five people were killed in lightning strikes at different places in Odisha’s Bargarh and Bolangir districts, police said on Wednesday. Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi has announced an ex-gratia of Rs 4 lakh each to the families of the deceased, an official release said. Three persons were killed in Duanadihi village of Bargarh, while two others lost their lives in Chaulbanji village of Bolangir due to lightning.
At least eight people died due to lightning in Bihar
At least eight people have died due to lightning in six districts of Bihar. An official gave this information on Wednesday. The official said that these deaths have occurred in Bhagalpur, Munger, Jamui, East Champaran, West Champaran and Araria districts in the last 24 hours. Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar has expressed deep condolences on the deaths due to lightning in the state in the last 24 hours.
Ex-gratia of Rs 4 lakh will be given
According to the Chief Minister’s Office (CMO), an ex-gratia of Rs 4 lakh has also been announced for the kin of each deceased. According to the CMO statement, two deaths each were reported in Bhagalpur and Munger districts, followed by one each in Jamui, East Champaran, West Champaran and Araria districts. In the statement, the Chief Minister also appealed to the people to be cautious during bad weather and follow the instructions issued by the Disaster Management Department. “Stay indoors and stay safe during bad weather,” he said. On Tuesday, five people, including two women, were killed in Uttar Pradesh’s Amethi and Sultanpur due to lightning.
