Kathmandu: Holi festival is in full swing in India as well as in neighboring country Nepal. On the lines of India, the festival of colours, Holi, is celebrated with great pomp and show in Nepal. Holi has been celebrated in Nepal’s capital Kathmandu and other hilly districts since today (Sunday). The earth and the sky have become colorful with colours, abir and gulal. Holi was celebrated today in Nepal amid tight security. However, this festival will be celebrated on Monday in Terai, the southern plains of the country.
Nepal President Ramchandra Paudel, in his message on this occasion, expressed confidence that Holi will “promote mutual harmony in the society and strengthen national unity.” Expressing his good wishes for happiness, peace and prosperity for all Nepalese at home and abroad, President Paudel described Holi as a celebration of “the victory of justice over injustice and virtue over evil.” To avoid this, security has been tightened in and around Kathmandu Valley.
Strict deployment of thousands of police personnel for peace and security during Holi
Nepal is the first Hindu nation in the world. Around 5,000 police personnel were deployed in the valley to maintain law and order here during the Holi festival. Police also used drones to monitor the security situation in sensitive areas. The force also started checking vehicles at around 100 locations to keep an eye on possible traffic rule violations during the festival. The local administration has warned of action against spraying color or throwing water on people without consent. The Kathmandu Valley Traffic Police Office has taken action against at least 250 vehicles for violating traffic rules. (Language)
