Bangalore. In view of the Legislative Council elections and the counting of votes for the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, the sale of liquor will be prohibited in Bengaluru from June 1 to June 6. All liquor shops in the city will remain closed during this period. However, pubs and bars will remain open, which will be limited to serving only non-alcoholic beverages and food to their customers. The counting and results of the General Elections 2024 will be declared on June 4. Meanwhile, elections for the vacant Legislative Council seats in Karnataka due to the retirement of the current members will be held on June 3, and the counting of votes will take place on June 6.
According to the Election Commission of India (ECI), the following members – Dr Chandrashekhar B Patil (Karnataka North-East Graduates), Ayanuru Manjunath (Karnataka South-West Graduates), A Devegowda (Bengaluru Graduates), Dr Y A Narayanaswamy (Karnataka South-East Teachers), SL Bhoje Gowda (Karnataka South-West Teachers), and Marithibbe Gowda (Karnataka South-East Teachers) are retiring on June 21.
Mumbai gets relief from dry day
Meanwhile, the Bombay High Court on Friday allowed the sale of liquor in Mumbai after the announcement of the Lok Sabha election results on June 4, a decision that the court termed as a bar-friendly measure. A vacation bench of Justices NR Borkar and Somashekhar Sundaresan ruled that the ban imposed by the city collector on the sale of liquor at hotels, restaurants, bars and permit rooms in Mumbai will be lifted after the election results are announced.

The High Court was hearing two petitions filed by the Association of Owners of Hotels and Restaurants (AHAR) opposing the directions issued by the Mumbai city and suburban collectors declaring June 4 as a dry day.
