Gurugram. Cyber police on Thursday busted a gang that extorts money from people by promising to give instant ‘loan’ through online app. He said that the police have arrested nine people of the gang including three owners of the app and a manager.
Police said they allegedly extorted money by doctoring the photographs of loan defaulters and threatening to upload them on social media platforms. A box containing eight mobile phones, four CPUs and SIM cards has been seized from them.

According to the police, a woman had lodged a complaint on April 3 that she had taken a loan of Rs 3000 through an online app and when she could not repay the loan on time, the app company harassed her by posting ‘bad posts’ on Facebook. And ‘objectionable posts’ were continuously sent on his WhatsApp.
The woman said that the accused also threatened to send her photographs to her family if she did not repay the loan. Police said that based on the complaint, a case was registered under relevant provisions at the Cyber Crime (West) police station.
