Thiruvananthapuram: Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader and Union Information Technology (IT) Minister Rajiv Chandrashekhar, contesting from Thiruvananthapuram Lok Sabha seat in Kerala, has declared assets worth more than Rs 28 crore. Chandrashekhar is contesting the elections to be held on April 26 against Congress leader Shashi Tharoor and veteran Communist Party of India (CPI) leader Panniyan Raveendran.
Nomination was filed on Thursday
Chandrashekhar had filed his nomination papers before the election officer on Thursday. According to the affidavit filed with the nomination papers, the total value of his movable assets is Rs 13,69,18,637, while his wife has assets worth Rs 12,47,00,408. These include details of cash held by them, deposits in banks, non-banking financial companies and co-operative societies, as well as investments in bonds, debentures, shares, companies/mutual funds and other financial units.
His movable assets also include a 1942 model ‘Red Indian Scout’, which is registered in Karnataka. It was purchased in 1994 for Rs 10,000. Along with this, he also has jewellery, bullion and other valuables worth more than Rs 3.25 crore.
The immovable assets of the BJP leader include self-acquired property purchased at a price of Rs 5,26,42,640, the estimated current market value of which is Rs 14,40,00,000. Chandrashekhar has liabilities of Rs 19,41,92,894, about which there are disputes, while his wife has liabilities of Rs 1,63,43,972.
These include loans from banks, financial institutions and others. Chandrashekhar’s total income has been shown in the income tax return for the year 2022-23 as Rs 5,59,200, which was Rs 680 in the year 2021-22. (input language)
