Kolkata. Lucknow Supergiants had to face defeat by Kolkata Knight Riders for the first time in the Indian Premier League. After losing the toss, Lucknow team came to bat first against Kolkata. Nicholas Puran’s innings of 45 runs took the score to 161 runs for 7 wickets. Captain KL Rahul was out after scoring 39 runs in this match. Thanks to Phil Salt’s unbeaten 89 and captain Shreyas Iyer’s 38, Kolkata won by losing 2 wickets in 15.4 overs.
Team head coach Justin Langer said on Sunday that the batting has disappointed the team in the last two IPL matches. After scoring a hat-trick of wins, Supergiants had to face consecutive defeats in the last two matches against Delhi Capitals and Kolkata Knight Riders. In these two matches the team could score only 167 and 161 runs.
“In the last two matches it was definitely our batting that let us down,” Langer said after the eight-wicket defeat against the Knight Riders. We are a good team defending the target but our batting let us down which means we were not able to defend the score as we have been doing in the past.
Langer termed the batsmen’s inability to target the spinners as a matter of concern. He said, “In the last two matches we have hit only four fours on the spinners. So that’s something we’ll definitely look at. I thought KL (Rahul) started really well again, he batted brilliantly. But we just kept losing those important wickets so it put pressure on us again. We will definitely try to deal with it.
