Lulu will give Rs 5 lakh financial aid to the families of Indians killed in Kuwait.
Dubai: Renowned non-resident Indian (NRI) businessman and head of the United Arab Emirates (UAE)-based Lulu Group M.A. Yusuf Ali has announced a compensation of Rs 5 lakh each to the families of those who lost their lives in the Kuwait fire. The head of Lulu Group made this announcement on Thursday. Let us tell you that 49 foreign workers were killed and 50 others were injured in a massive fire in a multi-storey building in Mangaf area of southern Kuwait on Wednesday. 45 of the dead are Indians. A statement issued by the group in Abu Dhabi said that an amount of Rs 5 lakh will be given to the family of each of these deceased.
Minister of State for External Affairs Kirti Vardhan Singh arrived in Kuwait on Thursday and met some Indians injured in the fire. The Indian Embassy in Kuwait said all the injured are safe. A military transport aircraft is being sent to Kuwait on Thursday night to bring back the bodies of over 40 Indians killed in a massive fire that broke out in a building housing foreign workers, officials said. Kuwaiti authorities said they have identified the bodies of 45 Indians killed in the fire. At least 49 migrant workers were killed and 50 others injured in the fire. Officials in Delhi said an Indian Air Force C-130J transport aircraft will bring back the bodies on Friday and the plane will first land in Kochi as most of the victims are from Kerala.
The body is being brought to Delhi by Air Force plane
The bodies of Indians killed in the Kuwait fire are being brought to Delhi by an Indian Air Force plane. As some of the deceased are from North Indian states. Kuwaiti authorities have conducted DNA tests to identify the deceased. Kuwait’s fire force said that the massive fire was caused by an electrical ‘short circuit’. Minister of State for External Affairs Kirti Vardhan Singh has reached Kuwait to monitor the relief of Indians injured in the fire and to bring back the bodies of those killed soon. A few hours after reaching Kuwait, Singh met Kuwait’s Foreign Minister Abdullah Ali Al-Yahya and Health Minister Ahmed Abdelwahab Ahmed Al-Awadi separately.
Indian Embassy in Kuwait is helping
The Indian Embassy in Kuwait said that Al-Yahya has assured full assistance including medical care, prompt repatriation of the bodies and investigation of the incident. The embassy wrote on the social media platform ‘X’, “Foreign Minister Yahya expressed condolences over the tragic incident. He assured full assistance including medical care, prompt repatriation of the bodies and investigation of the incident.” The embassy said, “The Minister of State appreciated the cooperation being given by all the concerned authorities of Kuwait.” According to the Indian Embassy, in the meeting with Singh, the Health Minister of Kuwait informed about the steps taken for the speedy recovery of the Indians. Singh also visited Mubarak Al Kabir Hospital where seven injured Indians are admitted. Earlier, the Ministry of External Affairs had issued a statement on Wednesday night saying, “About 40 of the people killed in an unfortunate and tragic incident of fire in a residential building in Mangaf area of Kuwait early today (Wednesday) are believed to be Indians. “
PM Modi is deeply saddened by the incident
Prime Minister Narendra Modi termed the incident as ‘tragic’ and reviewed the situation by holding a meeting with External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar, National Security Advisor Ajit Doval, Foreign Secretary Vinay Kwatra and Principal Secretary to the Prime Minister PK Mishra among others. After the meeting, Modi announced an ex-gratia of Rs 2 lakh each to the families of the deceased Indians from the Prime Minister’s Relief Fund and directed that the government provide all possible assistance. The External Affairs Minister spoke to his Kuwaiti counterpart Al-Yahya over the phone and requested him to expedite the transfer of the bodies of the Indians who lost their lives in the fire to India.
Jaishankar posted on ‘X’, “(I) spoke to Kuwaiti Foreign Minister Abdullah Ali Al-Yahya regarding the fire incident in Kuwait. (I) was informed about the efforts made by the Kuwaiti authorities in this regard. (I) was assured that the incident will be thoroughly investigated and responsibility will be fixed.” (Language)
