New Delhi. Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday shared a clip from his monthly radio program ‘Mann Ki Baat’, in which he elaborated on the Madhavpur fair as a unique celebration of India’s cultural diversity and vibrancy. The Prime Minister tweeted, “The Madhavpur Mela has begun. I had earlier shared a few things during Mann Ki Baat last month about this unique celebration of India’s cultural diversity and vitality.”
The Prime Minister also shared a tweet from Gujarat Tourism emphasizing on the theme and joyful spirit of the fair.
Gujarat Tourism tweeted, “The ambiance of cultures of the West and Northeast is celebrated with the divine marriage of Shri Krishna and Rukmini Devi. Walk there to experience the blissful spirit, grandeur and spirituality manifested through the majestic Madhavpur Fair.”
During his ‘Mann Ki Baat’ last month, Prime Minister Modi had mentioned that the ‘Madhavpur Mela’ is held at Madhavpur village near the sea in Porbandar, Gujarat.
“Thousands of years ago Lord Krishna is said to have been married to Rukmani, a princess from the North East. This marriage took place at Madhavpur in Porbandar and the Madhavpur fair is still held today as a symbol of that marriage. It is between East and West. Relationship is our heritage. With the passage of time new aspects are also being added to the Madhavpur Mela due to the efforts of the people.
He said that artists from all the states of the North East arrive at the Madhavpur fair, which lasts for a week, when artisans involved in handicrafts come and the beauty of the fair increases manifold.
He said, “This fusion of cultures of East and West of India for a week, Madhavpur Mela makes a very beautiful example of Ek Bharat, Shrestha Bharat. I request you to read and know more about this fair. Am.”
