Senior Congress leaders in Madhya Pradesh gathered at the official residence of the party’s state unit president Kamal Nath on Wednesday to discuss the strategy for the end- 2023 state assembly elections. Sources said that apart from Nath, former Chief Minister Digvijay Singh, former Union Ministers Kantilal Bhuria, Suresh Pachauri and Arun Yadav and former Leader of Opposition Ajay Singh were present at the dinner party.
Sources said the party’s strategy for the assembly elections to be held next year was discussed at this dinner party. He said Kamal Nath briefed the Congress leaders about his and Digvijay Singh’s recent meeting with party president Sonia Gandhi and also shared plans to hire the services of election strategist Prashant Kishor. Sources said that Kamal Nath told those present that Sonia Gandhi has asked party workers and leaders to raise their voice against the Modi government at the Center and protest on issues like inflation and hike in fuel prices, so that the BJP’s ‘ To counter divisive politics.
’25-30 MLAs are in danger’
The former chief minister also shared the survey report about the sitting Congress MLAs including former ministers and asked them to take corrective steps along with the public. “Around 25-30 Congress MLAs are under threat,” the sources said. He said that even Kamal Nath had told him personally about his condition. The Congress, which was out of power in Madhya Pradesh since 2003, formed the government in 2018 and Kamal Nath was made the chief minister. However, the Congress-led state government fell after 15 months following a rebellion by the then party leader Jyotiraditya Scindia. Scindia resigned from the Congress along with his supporting MLAs, including six ministers, and joined the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), paving the way for the return of the BJP government in the state.
