OBC reservation in Maharashtra on the lines of Madhya Pradesh
In the new bill, a proposal to give political reservation to OBC society in the state has been approved on the lines of the Madhya Pradesh government. Under which the State Election Commission will be left with only the right to hold elections. The Bill passed in the Vidhan Sabha stipulates that the power to fix division structure, reservation and date of election in civic elections will not rest with the State Election Commission. The state government will decide the division structure and the reservation process while the state election commission will only conduct the elections.
Elections will have to be held as per court order- Fadnavis
Leader of Opposition in the Assembly Devendra Fadnavis said that the bill has not cleared the way for political reservation for OBCs. This will only postpone the election for some time. During this, the data will have to be collected and presented in the court. Elections will have to be conducted with OBC reservation only by the order of the court. We want OBCs to get political reservation, said Fadnavis. That’s why the BJP has supported the bill.
