The Maharashtra government has ordered a CID probe into the allegations leveled by Leader of Opposition Devendra Fadnavis. BJP leader and former CM Fadnavis had alleged that a conspiracy was being hatched in the office of Special Public Prosecutor Praveen Chavan to implicate him and Bharatiya Janata Party leaders.
State Home Minister Dilip Walse Patil said that this ‘sting operation’ will be investigated. Responding to a question asked during the debate on the law and order issue in the Assembly, Patil said Praveen Chavan has resigned from the post of Special Public Prosecutor.
The state home minister said, ‘This sting operation on Praveen Chavan will be investigated. The question of supporting any person involved does not arise at all. Fadnavis had on March 8 handed over a pen drive to Deputy Speaker Narhari Jirwal as ‘evidence’.
He had claimed that the said pen drive contained 125 hours of video recording which showed how the police and members of the Maha Vikas Aghadi alliance conspired to implicate BJP leaders in wrong cases in connivance with Praveen Chavan’s office. Fadnavis had raised the demand for a Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) probe into the matter.
