Mahashivratri 2022 Omkareshwar Jyotirlinga: Manish Kare, Khandwa. Devotees from all over the country will gather for darshan on Mahashivratri in the court of Omkareshwar in Khandwa district, which is included in the twelve Jyotirlingas of the country. The doors of the temple will remain open for 24 hours on Shivratri for darshan. Lord Bholenath is enshrined in two forms in Omkareshwar, situated on the banks of Mokshadayani Maa Narmada. It is believed that one of them is Omkareshwar and the other form is Mamleshwar. The welfare of the devotees is achieved only by the sight of these Jyotirlingas of Lord Bholenath, situated on the banks of Mother Narmada. Similarly, about Omkareshwar temple, it is believed that Bholenath and Mata Parvati rest here at night. That’s why cradles, sedges and back-cuts are decorated here for them.
Omkareshwar Jyotirling, which is included in the two Jyotirlingas of Madhya Pradesh among the twelve Jyotirlingas, is situated on the banks of the holy river Narmada. At this place, due to the splitting of Narmada into two streams, Om shaped island has been formed in the middle. It is called Omkar Parvat or Shivpuri. The temple of Omkareshwar Jyotirlinga is situated on this mountain. On the south bank of Mother Narmada, Lord Shiva is seated in the form of Mamleshwar Jyotirlinga. Both the temples are the center of faith here. The story of Omkareshwar Jyotirling having two forms is recorded in the Puranas.
It is said that Vindhyaparvat had done hard worship of Lord Shiva for six months, due to which the Lord gave Vindhya the desired boon. Other sages and sages were also present there on this occasion. He was also praying to fulfill his wish, on which Lord Shiva divided Omkareshwar in two parts. One was named Omkareshwar and the other was Mamleshwar. Even though the place and temple of both the sexes are different, the importance, power and form of both are considered to be the same. The glory of Jyotirlinga is also described in detail in Shiv Purana.
Apart from Shivratri in Omkareshwar, the month of Sawan and Narmada Jayanti are also celebrated with great pomp. In Sawan, thousands of Kavadis, after filling the water of Narmada, travel on foot and perform Jalabhishek of Lord Mahakaleshwar in Ujjain. At the same time, the resolution of the people who travel to Chardham and circumambulate the mother Narmada is not complete without the darshan and worship of Lord Omkareshwar.
