Kolkata: The Kolkata-bound Kanchenjunga Express has collided with a freight train in Siliguri, Bengal. There is no news of any casualties at the moment. This news has just arrived. Big updates are awaited. Meanwhile, West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has posted on Twitter expressing grief over the accident. She wrote in her post, ‘Shocked to know about a tragic railway accident in Phansidewa area of Darjeeling district.’
He further wrote in his post, ‘Detailed information is awaited, it is being told that a goods train has hit the Kanchenjunga Express. DM, SP, doctors, ambulance and disaster teams have reached the spot for relief, rescue and medical assistance. Action has been started on a war footing.’ This accident happened near Kishanganj, adjacent to Bihar.
The Kanchenjunga Express going from NJP to Sealdah has met with an accident between Rangapani and Nijbari. The Kanchenjunga Express was standing when a goods train came from behind and hit it. Three bogies of the train have been badly damaged in this accident. So far, two people have been reported dead in this accident. But this has not been officially confirmed.
CPRO/NFR has confirmed the accident. CPRO has said in a statement that there has been a report of a rear-end collision with Kanchenjunga near New Jalpaiguri. At present, details of how many people are injured and how many people are reported to be casualties in the accident are awaited.
