Mallikarjun Kharge
Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge has targeted the BJP-led NDA government. He has said that this government was formed by mistake and will not last long. Kharge said that he is not saying anything new. He is just repeating PM Modi’s words. PM Modi himself has called it a khichdi government. If there is no clear majority then the government is not in a position to take any decision.
In the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, no party got a clear majority (272 seats) and the NDA alliance formed the government. The support of Nitish Kumar’s Janata Dal United and Chandrababu Naidu’s Telugu Desam Party is very important in the NDA alliance led by the Bharatiya Janata Party. However, the leaders of the NDA alliance have made it clear that they stand strongly with PM Modi and this government will fulfill all the promises made to the people. It will take the country forward towards a developed India.
What is the mathematics of alliance?
BJP is the largest party in the NDA alliance with 240 seats. TDP is the second largest party with 16 seats. JDU has 13 MPs and Chirag Paswan’s LJP (Ram Vilas) has five MPs. With the support of Shiv Sena (Eknath Shinde faction) and other regional parties, NDA has a total of 293 MPs. Overall, TDP and JDU are in the role of kingmakers and if these two parties withdraw their support, there will be a danger of the NDA government falling. However, the big leaders of both the parties have full faith in PM Modi and both the leaders have made it clear that they stand firmly with the current government and the NDA alliance.
Position of the opposition coalition
For the Lok Sabha elections, the opposition parties led by Congress formed the All India Alliance. This alliance has a total of 231 seats. Congress is the largest party. Apart from this, Samajwadi Party and Trinamool Congress are also part of this alliance. Parties like RJD and DMK are also with the Congress. Many other small parties are also with the Congress.
