The results of the assembly elections are alarm bells for the Samajwadi Party, Bahujan Samaj Party and Congress. Especially for the SP, whose every new effort in the last ten years has proved to be a failure. Same is the case for BSP, which has lost its dedicated electorate for the first time in this election. After the Congress lost its power in Punjab, it was reduced to just two seats in the most important state of the country.
Every effort of SP in vain: The Samajwadi Party’s third consecutive attempt to beat the BJP with the help of an alliance has also fallen flat. In the last assembly elections, the party had made a ruckus with the Congress with the slogan ‘boy of UP’. After this, forgetting the two-and-a-half-decade-old rivalry in the 2019 elections, he fought the BJP by forming an alliance with the Bahujan Samaj Party. This time, with the help of the Rashtriya Lok Dal, the party had taken the stake of defeating the BJP by bringing together non-Yadav OBCs to reach voters in western UP and several smaller parties including the Subhaspa.
BSP also became irrelevant: This is the first election after the nineties when the BSP’s number of seats could not even reach double digits. This is the position of a party whose head Mayawati has been chief minister four times in the state. The result has made it clear that the BSP, once the main force of the state, has become almost irrelevant.
Only small parties left with BJP: The election result has also eclipsed the relevance of smaller parties in the state. The SP had high hopes from small caste groups including RLD in the west, SubhaSP in the east, Apna Dal Kameravadi. But, the result made it clear that the same small parties that remained with the BJP remained relevant in the state. In particular, RLD chief Jayant Chaudhary could not cash in on the resentment of the farmers in the West and the sympathy arising out of the death of his father Ajit Singh.
Gairyadav OBC voters stayed with saffron: The BJP was in a dilemma after the wholesale farewell of OBC leaders during the elections. The party was fearing a dent in the non-Yadav OBC vote bank. There was a stampede-like situation in the BJP camp, especially with Swami Prasad Maurya, Dharamsingh Saini leaving with many strong leaders. Although the results of the elections have shown that the OBC leaders must run away from the BJP, the leaders of this class also expressed their displeasure, but the non-Yadav OBC fraternity remained with the saffron camp.
Now what next: The results of the assembly elections have made the message of the voters of the most important state of the country clear. The message is that the road in the state is not easy for those parties which have been in power in the past. Voters have told that there will be no change in the state until a new and concrete political alternative comes before it like Punjab.
