New Delhi. The Union Home Ministry has taken major action against Yamini Iyer, daughter of Congress leader Mani Shankar Aiyar, for breaking rules and regulations. The Home Ministry has canceled the license of Yamini Iyer’s think tank Center for Policy Research CPR under the Foreign Exchange Regulation Act FCRA. According to news channel Aaj Tak, earlier income tax surveys were also conducted on CPR. In March 2023, the Home Ministry had suspended the FCRA license of CPR. This suspension was also extended for another six months.
CPR, the think tank of Mani Shankar Iyer’s daughter Yamini Iyer, had also filed an application in the Delhi High Court against the suspension of the FCRA license. Now the Home Ministry has canceled the foreign exchange taking license of CPR, which was accused of not following the rules and regulations. After the cancellation of the license, CPR no longer has the right to take any donation from abroad. It is believed that due to lack of foreign donations, the functioning of CPR may be affected. Till the time of writing the news, there was no response in this matter from CPR, Yamini Iyer or Mani Shankar Iyer. Regarding CPR, it is being told that the think tank received funds from many foreign organizations including the Ford Foundation. Apart from this, it was also alleged that CPR also donated to Teesta Setalvad’s NGO Sabrang Foundation. The FCRA license of Teesta’s Sabrang was canceled in 2016 itself.
Mani Shankar Aiyar is a big leader of Congress. He was also a minister in the UPA government. Bureaucrat-turned-politician Mani Shankar Aiyer has made indecent statements about PM Narendra Modi several times. He has also gone to Pakistan and said that relations between India and Pakistan can improve only by removing Modi from power. For these statements, Mani Shankar Aiyar had to become the target of BJP leaders and social media users. Now it remains to be seen what his reaction is when the FCRA license of his daughter’s think tank CPR is cancelled.
