According to an official, polling was held in three seats in Senapati district, where the highest turnout of 82.02 per cent was recorded.
At the same time, 78 percent polling was recorded in Thoubal district. Ukhrul and Chandel districts recorded 71.57 and 76.71 per cent votes respectively. However, Tamenglong had the lowest voter turnout of 66.40 per cent. On the other hand, Jiribam, the smallest district of the state, recorded a vote percentage of 75.02. Earlier in the first phase, 38 out of 60 assembly seats went to polls on February 28.
BJP worker murdered
- Hours before the second phase of polling began, violence broke out when a BJP supporter was allegedly shot dead by a Congress worker. A police official said that 25-year-old L. Ambuba Singh was admitted to a hospital here in the early hours of Saturday after being shot, where she died.
- Ambuba Singh, along with other BJP workers, had gone to the residence of a Congress worker in Thoubal district in the early hours to ask them to stop campaigning as the time allotted for it was over.
- In another incident, some unidentified miscreants hurled a country-made bomb at the residence of expelled BJP leader C. Bijoy in Lamphel area of Manipur’s Imphal West district. No one was injured in the blast carried out by two masked miscreants on a two-wheeler. The incident happened on Friday night.
