New Delhi. Former Congress president Sonia Gandhi was re-elected as the head of the party parliamentary party (CPP) on Saturday. On this occasion, she launched a scathing attack on Prime Minister Narendra Modi and said that Modi has suffered a ‘political and moral defeat’ in the Lok Sabha elections and he has ‘lost the right to lead.’
Congress leaders said that in the Congress Parliamentary Party meeting held in the Central Hall of Samvidhaan Sadan (Old Parliament House), party president Mallikarjun Kharge presented the proposal to appoint Sonia Gandhi as the CPP chief, which was approved by three party MPs Gaurav Gogoi, Tariq Anwar and K. Sudhakaran.
On being re-elected as the CPP chief, Sonia thanked the party leaders and said that the Congress has shown its strength in this election. She also claimed that Prime Minister Modi has suffered a political and moral defeat in the Lok Sabha elections and in such a situation he has lost not only the mandate but also the right to lead.
Sonia said, “The people of the country have given a decisive vote to reject the politics of division and dictatorship. They voted to strengthen parliamentary politics and protect the Constitution.” She said that many people wrote the story of our end, but we stood firm under the strong leadership of Mallikarjun Kharge.
She said that ‘Bharat Jodo Yatra’ and ‘Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra’ were historic movements which infused new life into the party at every level. Sonia said that Rahul Gandhi deserves special thanks for his commitment to face unprecedented personal and political attacks.
Before Sonia was elected as the CPC chief, a unanimous resolution was passed in the meeting of the party’s Working Committee (CWC) requesting Rahul Gandhi to take up the responsibility of the Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha. In the recent Lok Sabha elections, Congress has won 99 seats.
