'MCD should be dissolved', HC's strong comment on the death of mother and son after falling into a drain

The Delhi High Court has made a strong comment on the case of the death of a woman and her child after falling into a drain in Ghazipur, Delhi. The court said that the negligence of the Municipal Corporation of Delhi – MCD is such that now the government should be asked to dissolve it.

Expressing strong displeasure in this matter, the High Court said that if no action is taken against the responsible officers of Delhi Municipal Corporation in such cases, then we will start suspending such officers. The court raised questions on the cabinet meeting of the Delhi government and said that the situation in Delhi is such that the cabinet meeting of the Delhi government is not being held. There is no standing committee in the MCD. If there are no meetings of the cabinet and standing committee, then how will the budget be approved for the works.

The High Court also asked the Delhi Police to file a case of criminal negligence against the responsible officers. The MCD and Delhi Police have also been asked to file a report about the steps taken in the matter within ten days.

Let us tell you that on Wednesday, 31st August, there was heavy rain in the entire NCR including Delhi. Due to the rain, several feet of water was filled in all the roads and streets. During the water filling, a woman and her son died by drowning near Ghazipur drain. The woman was going to the market with her 3-year-old child. Due to water being filled on the road, she fell into a deep drain there. After a lot of effort, the bodies of the woman and the child were taken out of the drain.

A PIL was filed in the Delhi High Court regarding this incident. In this petition, action was demanded against the contractor who constructed the drain.
