Mirabai Chanu Paris Olympics 2024: India’s Mirabai Chanu finished fourth in the 49 kg weightlifting category at the Paris Olympics 2024. She missed out on winning a medal. She won the silver medal at the Tokyo Olympics 2024. Now her dream of winning two Olympic medals is shattered. Thailand’s Khambao Surodchan lifted a total of 200 kg. She won the bronze medal. Mirabai could lift just one kilogram less than her and missed out on a medal.
Total weight lifted in snatch category was 88 kg
Mirabai Chanu lifted 85 kg in her first attempt in snatch. After this, she decided to lift 88 kg in the second attempt. But she could not lift 88 kg. After this, she lifted 88 kg in the third attempt. In this way, after three attempts, Mirabai has lifted the best weight of 88 kg in the snatch category.
In the clean and jerk category, the weightlifter has to first put the weight on the shoulder. After this, he has to lift it up. Mirabai tried to lift 111 kg weight in the first attempt. But she could not succeed. After this, she successfully lifted the same weight in the second attempt. However, in the third attempt, she could not lift 114 kg weight. Combining both the categories of snatch (88 kg) and clean and jerk (111 kg), she has lifted a total of 199 kg weight.
Chinese player won gold medal
Defending champion Hou Zhihui of China won the gold medal by lifting 207 kg, including a new world record of 117 kg in the clean and jerk event. Mihaela Valentina Cambei of Romania was leading till the last moment and had to settle for the silver medal by lifting a total of 205 kg. Khambao Surodchan of Thailand won the bronze medal by lifting 200 kg.
