India captain Rohit Sharma and coach Rahul Dravid have come under attack from cricket fans during the Mohali Test. People are criticizing both the legends on social media for preventing Ravindra Jadeja from double century. Actually, Jadeja played a brilliant innings in the first match of the two-Test series being played in Mohali. He scored an unbeaten 175 in the first innings. It looked like Jadeja could have scored the first double century of his career, but it could not happen due to the captain’s decision.
Indian captain Rohit decided to declare the team’s innings at 574 for eight. Mohammed Shami was at the crease with Jadeja at that time. The duo put on a 103-run partnership for the ninth wicket. Fans expected that Jadeja would be able to score a double century, but the captain’s decision left them disappointed.
This is the second time with Rahul Dravid that he has come under fire for preventing a player from scoring a double century. Earlier, Dravid had stopped Sachin Tendulkar with a double century on 29 March 2004. Then Sachin was unbeaten on 194 against Pakistan in Multan. He looked quite disappointed after the innings was declared. It is believed that he did not even talk to Dravid for several days.
Jadeja spoke to the media after the end of the second day’s play of the Mohali Test. He spoke in detail on the incident. Jadeja refused to hold Rohit Sharma guilty. He said- I had asked the team management to declare the innings because Sri Lankan players were tired at that time. We could take advantage of this. We had a great chance to get him out.
Sri Lankan team lost four wickets for 108 runs in the first innings. Jadeja, who showed greatness with the bat, also showed amazing with the ball. He carried Sri Lanka captain Dimuth Karunaratne lbw. Dimuth scored 28 runs. Apart from them, Lahiru Thirimanne of the team scored 17 runs, Ashwin, Angelo Mathews scored 22 runs, Bumrah and Dhananjay de Silva scored one run, Ashwin got out on the ball.
