Mohanthal made from gram flour is a famous sweet of Rajasthan. It is grainy and so soft that it melts in your mouth. You can easily make Mohanthal at home. Mohanthal is especially offered as Prasad in Khatu Shyam of Rajasthan. You can make this tasty sweet at home by using only gram flour and a little mawa. Know how to make Mohanthal and what is its special recipe?

Ingredients for making Mohanthal

  • Gram flour – 3 cups
  • Desi Ghee – ¼ cup
  • Milk – ¼ cup
  • Ghee – 1 cup for roasting gram flour
  • Milk – ½ cup
  • Sugar – 1½ cups
  • 1/2 cup water
  • Mawa – half cup
  • cardamom powder
  • Pistachios chopped

Recipe for making Mohanthal

First step- First of all you have to make the gram flour granular, for this add ¼ cup ghee and ¼ cup milk to the gram flour. Mix it by crumbling it lightly so that the gram flour becomes a little moist.

Second step- Now you have to rub the gram flour till it becomes granular and then filter it through a sieve with thick holes. Now to roast the gram flour, place a pan on the gas and add 1 cup of ghee. Put the prepared gram flour in it.

Third step- Now keep roasting the gram flour on low flame and roast it till it becomes golden brown. When ghee starts coming out from the sides of the gram flour, then understand that the gram flour is roasted. Now add half a cup of milk and mix it.

Fourth step- The entire gram flour mixture will become frothy and this will make the gram flour quite grainy. Cook the gram flour until the milk dries up and then take it out in a vessel.

Fifth step- Now put all the sugar and half a cup of water in a pan. Make one string syrup and add saffron threads to it to bring color. Now add mawa to it and when mawa gets mixed in the syrup, add roasted gram flour to it.

Sixth step- Now cook the entire mixture until it separates from the pan. Now add cardamom powder to it and mix well. Take out the entire mixture in a plate when it cools down.

Seventh step- Now keep it aside for about 4-5 hours to set. You can also keep it in the fridge or any cold place. When it is set, cut it in the shape of barfi. Decorate it with vark or your favorite dry fruits.
