The southwest monsoon advanced further into the state on Sunday after reaching parts of South Gujarat early on June 11 and stalling for several days. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) gave this information. The IMD said in its forecast on Sunday evening that conditions remain favorable for the monsoon to reach some more parts of Gujarat and adjoining North Arabian Sea in the next three-four days. However, there is still some time for the monsoon to reach Delhi and Uttar Pradesh. The monsoon may knock in these states around June 27.
The IMD said in its weather bulletin, “The southwest monsoon has advanced into the Arabian Sea, some more parts of Gujarat state, remaining parts of Maharashtra, some more parts of Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh, remaining parts of Odisha and some parts of Jharkhand.” The Meteorological Department has warned of heavy rains in 11 states. Red alert has been issued in Karnataka and Kerala. At the same time, orange alert has been issued in nine states including Bihar, Maharashtra and Jharkhand.
Now there will be heavy rains in these states
According to the Meteorological Department, conditions are favorable for it to advance further into the northern Arabian Sea and some more parts of Gujarat state, some more parts of Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, West Bengal, the remaining parts of Jharkhand and Bihar, some parts of Uttar Pradesh and Uttarakhand during the next three-four days. After entry, the southwest monsoon did not advance into other parts of Gujarat for several days.
Monsoon stayed for about 10 days
The southwest monsoon usually enters Gujarat on June 15 and advances to other parts of the state, including Ahmedabad and some areas of Saurashtra, by June 20. It reaches most parts of Saurashtra by June 25 and the entire state by June 30, officials said. According to the IMD, Tapi district in south Gujarat received heavy rainfall in the 24-hour period ending at 6.30 am on Sunday. During this period, many places in south Gujarat and isolated places in north Gujarat and Saurashtra also received rain. It has forecast light to moderate rain and thundershowers in all districts of Gujarat next week.
