Mumbai: Monsoon rain has become a disaster in Maharashtra. Heavy rain in Mumbai has made the weather pleasant, but it has also become a disaster. According to the official, a portion of the road collapsed in Maharashtra’s neighbouring Palghar district due to heavy rains. This affected traffic on the Mumbai-Ahmedabad highway for more than four hours on Sunday morning. A police control room official said that repair work, including the pipeline, was going on when a portion of the road collapsed in Palghar’s Maljipada area due to heavy rains. This halted traffic and disrupted movement on both sides of the road. Mumbai and surrounding areas received rain on Monday and the roads are overflowing.
Mumbai’s speed will slow down even today
Today i.e. on Monday also, Mumbai’s speed will slow down. The speed of vehicles will be affected due to waterlogging at many places. People are facing a lot of trouble due to this rain. Traffic jams were seen in many areas even in the morning. Many other districts of Maharashtra including Thane, Nashik, Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar, Ahmednagar, Satara and Jalgaon also received good rain in the last one day. Mumbai received more than 60 mm of rain on Sunday.
Where and how much rain fell?
According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), the Colaba Observatory in south Mumbai recorded 67 mm of rain, while the Santacruz Observatory near Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport recorded 64 mm of rain during the same period. The Colaba Observatory recorded a maximum temperature of 34.8 degrees Celsius, 1.1 degrees above normal, while the minimum temperature was 24.3 degrees Celsius, 2.9 degrees below normal. The drop in minimum temperature indicates a drop in temperature at night.
Premature monsoon
According to the Meteorological Department, the southwest monsoon reached Mumbai on Sunday, two days before the normal. The monsoon reached Kerala and the Northeast region ahead of schedule on May 30. Normally, the monsoon reaches Kerala by June 1, Mumbai by June 11 and the national capital by June 27. The Meteorological Department had predicted the monsoon to reach Kerala by May 31 on May 15.
Where and when will the monsoon arrive
Meteorologists said that cyclone Remal, which passed through West Bengal and Bangladesh in late May, pulled the monsoon towards the Bay of Bengal, resulting in the arrival of monsoon in the Northeast before time. The normal date of arrival of monsoon in Kerala is June 1 and in Arunachal Pradesh, Tripura, Nagaland, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Manipur and Assam is June 5. There is a possibility of below normal rainfall in Northeast India, normal in the North-West and above normal in the central and southern peninsular regions of the country. (from input language)
