There are reports that the session will begin in the old Parliament House. Later meetings can be held in the new Parliament House. The Monsoon Session, which runs from July 20 to August 11, will have 17 sittings. The new Parliament was inaugurated by the Prime Minister on 28 May. Describing the schedule of the monsoon session, Parliamentary Affairs Minister Prahlad Joshi tweeted- ‘I appeal to all parties to make constructive contribution to the legislative and other work of Parliament during the session.’
Government will bring a bill to replace the ordinance
In the monsoon session, the central government may bring a bill to replace the ‘Government of the National Capital Territory of Delhi (Amendment) Ordinance’. This will nullify the Supreme Court’s decision giving legislative and administrative control to the Delhi government in service matters. The Congress has made its stand clear regarding this. She has said that she will support the central government’s ordinance. At the same time, AAP will strongly oppose the bill in this regard. In this, the party hopes to get full support of many other parties as well. Regarding this ordinance, Kejriwal has been meeting the leaders of all the opposition parties in the past.
Atmosphere is being created regarding UCC, bill may come
Apart from this, the government can introduce the National Research Foundation (NRF) Bill 2023 in the Parliament. This would pave the way for setting up of the National Research Foundation (NRF). However, most of the attention this session may be on the UCC Bill. It is believed that the government will present it in this session. There can be a heated argument between the ruling party and the opposition regarding this. BJP’s ally Shiv Sena in Maharashtra has said that it supports Balasaheb Thackeray’s vision of ‘one nation, one law’. It has appealed to the Center to discuss the UCC in the monsoon session of Parliament.
Opposition’s attitude on Uniform Civil Code hot
Congress is attacking BJP on the issue of Uniform Civil Code (UCC). The party alleged that the BJP wanted to divide people and spread hatred. Prime Minister Narendra Modi had advocated UCC a few days back. After this Congress has given this reaction. Modi strongly supported the UCC on Tuesday in Bhopal. He had said that Muslims are being instigated on sensitive issues. The UCC deals with a common law governing marriage, divorce, inheritance, maintenance and succession of property for all citizens.
Congress spokesperson Meem Afzal has said that it is not UCC but ‘DCC’ (Dividing Civil Code). Through this, there is an intention to divide the country. UCC is not an agenda. However, the intention behind this is to divide the people of the country. All the opposition parties have termed this move as a polarizing step ahead of the 2024 Lok Sabha elections. Kerala Chief Minister and senior CPI(M) leader Pinarayi Vijayan alleged that BJP has an electoral agenda behind raising the issue of UCC. He has appealed to the central government not to implement it.
