Internet Users in India: The number of internet users in India has increased rapidly. According to the latest report of TRAI, the number of internet users in India has crossed 93 crores. However, amidst the rapid digital revolution in India, there is also a disappointing statistic. According to TRAI report, by December 2023, the number of internet users in India has crossed 936.16 million i.e. 93.61 crore. The number of internet users has increased by about 2 percent between October 2023 and December 2023.
According to TRAI data, the number of users using internet through mobile broadband is around 897.59 million i.e. around 90 crores. At the same time, the number of wired broadband users is 38.57 million i.e. about 3.8 crores. In the last few months, there has been a tremendous increase in the number of wired broadband users as compared to mobile broadband. The optical fiber network being laid in the country has helped in rapidly increasing the number of home wired broadband users.
far behind in this matter
The demand for high speed internet is no longer limited to cities only. The demand for the number of fixed wired users has increased in rural areas. Internet penetration in India is very low amidst increasing number of internet users. According to Statista report, by January 2024, internet penetration in India is only 52.4 percent. This means that only 52.4 percent of the total population of India uses the Internet. Internet penetration in Saudi Arabia and European countries is up to 99 percent.
According to TRAI data, ARPU (average revenue per user) of wireless users in India has increased by 2 percent to Rs 152.55. This is 8 percent more than last year. At the same time, ARPU of postpaid mobile users has also now reached Rs 189. The reason for the rapid increase in internet users is the increased use of OTT services by the users. According to a study by Internet and Mobile Association and Kantar released in February, 86 percent of Indian users stream online video and audio through OTT on the Internet.
