New Delhi, Defending champions Mumbai Indians registered their third win in the Women’s Premier League 2024 by defeating Royal Challengers Bangalore by 7 wickets in their fourth match. RCB had to face its second defeat. Mumbai easily won the low scoring match. Mumbai Indians team has reached first place in the points table with 6 points while RCB has slipped to fourth place. Mumbai won the match with 27 balls remaining.
After being invited to bat first, RCB batsmen were seen struggling against the bowlers of Mumbai Indians (RCBW vs MIW), due to which the team could only score 131 runs for six wickets. Mumbai Indians again dominated the batting and achieved this target by scoring 133 runs for three wickets in 15.1 overs. Amelia Kerr was the top scorer for Mumbai with 40 not out. Apart from them, opener Yastika Bhatia contributed 31 runs, Haley Mathews contributed 26 runs and Nate Sciver Brunt, who was leading the team in the absence of designated captain Harmanpreet Kaur, contributed 27 runs.

Yastika gave the team a fast start by scoring 31 runs in 16 balls with four fours and two sixes. Then Matthews and Nate Sciver Brunt made useful contributions. Mumbai registered an easy victory with Amelia’s unbeaten innings studded with seven fours in 24 balls. Earlier, if Ellyse Perry had not scored 44 unbeaten runs and Georgia Wareham had not scored 27 runs for RCB and both had not made a partnership of 52 runs for the sixth wicket, then RCB would not have been able to reach this score.
Mumbai team came without its regular captain Harmanpreet and main fast bowler Shabnim Ismail who are recovering from injuries. But his absence was not missed in the field. RCB’s top order batsmen could not play with composure and could not stand against the correct line and length of Mumbai Indians bowlers. Captain Smriti Mandhana (nine runs in 11 balls) lost patience and gave an easy catch to Nate Sciver Brunt while trying to get the ball out of the ground by fast bowler Isi Wong. The same happened with the team’s other top-order batsmen, Richa Ghosh and S Meghna.
Pooja Vastrakar made Richa her victim and Sanjana was out after being caught by Sanjeevan in mid-off. Meghna was dismissed by Nate Sciver Brunt. Perry, however, showed how to score runs on such a pitch, choosing the right balls to score runs against the bowlers. She hit boundaries on leg spinner Amelia Kerr with pull and cut shots on consecutive balls.
