Former Prime Minister of Bangladesh Sheikh Hasina
Dhaka: A murder case has been registered against former Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and six others over the death of a grocery shop owner during violent clashes last month, media reports said on Tuesday. This is the first case registered against Hasina (76), who resigned and came to India last week following massive protests against her Awami League-led government over a controversial job reservation system.

The case was filed by a well-wisher of Abu Sayeed, a grocery shop owner who was killed in police firing during a procession taken out in support of the reservation agitation in Mohammadpur on July 19, the Dhaka Tribune newspaper reported. The other accused include Awami League general secretary Obaidul Quader, former home minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal and former inspector general of police Chowdhury Abdullah Al Mamun.
So many people have died
According to the report, several police officers and government officials have also been accused in the case. More than 230 people have been killed in incidents of violence that broke out across the country after the fall of the Hasina government on August 5 in Bangladesh. The total number of people killed in this violence has reached 560 since the first anti-quota protests began in mid-July. After the fall of the Hasina-led government, an interim government has been formed in Bangladesh and 84-year-old Nobel laureate Muhammad Yunus has been made its chief advisor. (Language)
