Muslim Personal Law Board appealed to Yogi government on the issue of madrasas

A delegation of the ‘All India Muslim Personal Law Board’ met Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath and demanded withdrawal of the government’s order to admit all children studying in recognized madrasas in the state to council schools. The board expressed displeasure over the notice issued by the Chief Secretary of the state to 8,449 madrasas. After this notice, the district administration was ordering the madrasas to admit the children studying in them to schools for basic education.

Board spokesperson Qasim Rasool Ilyas said that a delegation led by the board’s general secretary Maulana Fazlur Rahman Mujaddidi met the chief minister at his residence. The delegation lodged objections to the notice issued by the state government to 8,449 madrasas in the state, on the basis of which the district administration is ordering madrasas in every district to admit the children studying there in schools for basic education.

The delegation said that the order issued by the then Chief Secretary of Uttar Pradesh, Durga Shankar Mishra on June 26 was against the Constitution and said that the Constitution has given the right to minorities to establish and run educational institutions of their choice. The board says that similarly, madrasas and pathshalas have also been exempted from the Right to Education Act 2009.

The board also strongly objected to the letter issued by the National Commission for Protection of Child Rights to the Chief Secretary of the state on June 7. The board said that major international madrasas like Darul Uloom Deoband and Darul Uloom Nadwatul Ulama are also being affected by this order. The Chief Minister was told that students studying in these madrasas get admission for higher education in the major universities of the country and students who have studied in these madrasas are also getting higher education in international universities.

The delegation demanded from the Chief Minister that he should issue an order to withdraw this order immediately so that the anxiety created among the Muslims of the state can be removed.
