Maulana Khalid Rashid Firangi Mahali, member of All India Muslim Personal Law Board (AIMPLB) and famous Muslim religious leader of Lucknow, while talking to the media, opposed any change in the Waqf Act. Actually, there has been a demand for complete repeal of the Waqf Act for a long time. The reason for this is that the Waqf Board has taken many such steps which have caused controversy. In Tamil Nadu, the Waqf Board had declared an entire village as its property. The court put a stay on this step of the Waqf Board. The Waqf Board is accused of arbitrarily claiming the land as its own and taking possession of it and the owner of the property is not able to free that land. Now the news is that the Modi government’s cabinet has decided to make 40 amendments in the Waqf Act. After this, the Waqf Board will not be able to arbitrarily claim any property as its own.
It is being told that under the amendment that the Modi government is going to make in the Wakf Act, it will also be ascertained whose actual ownership right is about the disputed property that the Wakf Boards already have. Apart from this, if the Wakf Board claims a new property, then it will be necessary to get the green signal from the District Magistrates. Let us tell you that the Wakf Board has about 9 lakh acres of land across the country. After the Army and the Railways, the Wakf Board is at the third place in terms of property.
