The legend of the founding of the temple
According to the popular legend about this temple, once upon a time three brothers lived at this place, one of whom was dumb, the other was deaf and the third was blind. Once upon a time, all three were digging a well together when they saw a stone.
On removing the stone, a stream of blood erupted from there and on seeing the water of the whole well turned red. As soon as this happened, the disability of the three brothers went away. Many people gathered there to see this miracle. After carefully looking at the stone that came out during the excavation of the well, it was found that it is the idol of Lord Ganesha. After this, it was legally established at the same place and in the year 1336 the temple was expanded in the Vijayanagara Empire. It is said that whoever comes to this place and worships Lord Ganesha with full devotion and reverence, all his sins are cut away. After this, after taking a bath in the river situated near the temple, one has to take a vow that he will never commit any sin again.
