Last June, in the meeting of the powerful standing committee of the Municipal Corporation, it was decided to create a parking space on one side of the road from the Red Cross building adjacent to the Amrit Mahotsav Park in Companybagh Road to the Collectorate. In July, the corporation also put up a parking board at the concerned site. Besides, two corporation workers were also deployed, but till now the parking system of vehicles has not been implemented.
Some people park their vehicles after seeing the parking board, but no one is seen there to look after them. The current situation is that out of the two personnel deployed at the parking lot, one has been transferred elsewhere. Earlier, along with installing paver blocks on the roadside, steel railings were also installed. There can be parking for 200 two-wheelers, three-wheelers and four-wheelers in the concerned area.
Home guard soldiers not found despite asking
Last July, the then Municipal Commissioner Naveen Kumar had written a letter to the DM requesting him to provide 10 home guard jawans regarding the security of the vehicles parked at the parking lot as well as the traffic arrangements in the concerned area. However, even after more than three months have passed, the corporation has still not been able to get the home guard personnel.
It is a difficult challenge to maintain the security or operation of the parking lot by relying on just one or two corporation employees.
Shop in parking lot, sidewalk shopkeepers not shifted
In place of vehicles, footpath shops are being set up from morning till night in the Companybagh parking lot. In the meeting of the Corporation Board, the former Municipal Commissioner had also given instructions to shift the vendors of Company Bagh Road to the vending zone identified near Lakshmi Chowk. However, even after more than three months, it could not be implemented.
