New Delhi. The sixth phase of the Lok Sabha elections has been completed on Saturday, May 25. Voting took place today on all 7 Lok Sabha seats in Delhi. In this sequence, Chief Justice (CJI) D.Y. Chandrachud also cast his vote in the New Delhi Lok Sabha seat along with his wife Kalpana Das. After casting his vote, CJI Chandrachud said, ‘Today I have fulfilled my duty as a citizen (of the country) by casting my vote. I had said earlier also that this is a huge responsibility of every citizen.’
CJI Chandrachud last month urged the citizens of the country not to miss the opportunity to vote in the general elections. He said that it is the “supreme duty” in a constitutional democracy. Justice Chandrachud said in a video message for the Election Commission’s (EC) ‘My Vote My Voice’ campaign for the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, “We are citizens of the world’s largest democracy. The Constitution gives us many rights as citizens.”
Earlier, CJI DY Chandrachud had a bilateral meeting with Uzbekistan Chief Justice Bakhtiar Islamov in Tashkent on Thursday. According to a release, Justice Chandrachud discussed the possibility of bilateral cooperation between the top courts of the two countries. CJI Chandrachud is in Tashkent for the meeting of the Chief Justices of the member countries of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO).
