New Delhi/Ranchi. Former Jharkhand Chief Minister Madhu Koda has filed a petition in the Delhi High Court demanding suspension of the trial court’s decision to convict him in the coal scam case. Delhi High Court issued notice to CBI on Madhu Koda’s petition and ordered a hearing on August 13. During this time, CBI also opposed Madhu Koda’s petition.
During the hearing in the High Court, CBI opposed Madhu Koda’s petition and said that the High Court has already ordered to dismiss a similar petition in this case. In such a situation, this petition is not worthy of hearing. After that, the court issued a notice to the CBI and ordered it to be heard on August 13 on the question of whether this petition is maintainable.
Let us tell you that Madhu Koda has said in the petition that he is the former Chief Minister of Jharkhand and he wants to contest the Jharkhand Assembly elections. Jharkhand Assembly elections are possible in November 2024. If the sentence is not suspended then he will not be able to contest the assembly elections.
In fact, on December 16, 2019, Patiala House Court had sentenced Madhu Koda, former Coal Secretary HC Gupta, former Jharkhand Chief Secretary AK Basu and Vijay Joshi to three years imprisonment each. Madhu Koda has appealed to the High Court to suspend the verdict in this case and has sought relief.
