The fire in the forests of Uttarakhand is not being extinguished. For the second consecutive day, the Indian Air Force helped extinguish the fire. However, eight new cases of fire have been reported in Uttarakhand on Sunday. Indian Air Force’s MI-17 V5 helicopter is engaged in extinguishing the fire. The bumpy bucket installed in the helicopter can fill 5000 liters of water at a time, which is poured on the forest fire, but till now the fire has not been completely controlled.
On Sunday, the fire destroyed the forest wealth spread over 11.75 hectares. 23 new cases of fire were reported on Saturday. Due to this, forest wealth spread over 34.175 hectares was damaged. According to the Forest Department, 606 cases of fire have been reported in the forests of Uttarakhand since November 2023, due to which 735.815 hectares of forest wealth has been damaged. According to Kumaon Chief Forest Conservator Prasanna Kumar Rao, no major case of fire has been reported in the last 24 hours.
CM Dhami asked for help
Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami has sought help from the people. He said in Khatima, “We are seeking help from all institutions including the Indian Army. Help is also being sought from the local people in extinguishing the fire. The responsibility of the officers will also be fixed in this matter.” The fire has also reached the forests adjacent to Nepal. People are facing a lot of trouble due to fire reaching residential areas of Nainital. Two people have been arrested for setting fire in the forest. One of them said that he wanted green grass to graze his sheep, so he set fire to the forests.
