Namaaz not allowed in Kerala college, political tussle over students' uproar

Kochi. In a church college near Muvattupuzha in Kerala, a protest was held on the campus after students were not allowed to offer namaz. The college administration had not given permission to offer namaz on the college campus. This led to a controversy. On the other hand, BJP and Catholic Church organizations have objected to the students’ protest against not being allowed to offer namaz.

According to the information, on Friday, a section of students protested inside Nirmala College and alleged that the non-teaching staff had prevented some girl students from offering namaz inside a room of the institute on Friday. In the video of the protest broadcast by some local channels, the students have claimed that for several days the college staff did not allow them to offer namaz. The students have also demanded an apology from the principal.

‘Divisive forces must be uprooted’
The church-affiliated organization has strongly objected to the students’ protest. The Catholic Congress, associated with the Syro-Malabar Church, condemned the protest and said that such divisive forces should be uprooted. At the same time, BJP leader PC George called the protest inside the college reprehensible. He questioned whether any Muslim college would give rooms to Hindus or Christians to pray? The BJP claimed that some people are trying to create problems in educational institutions run by Hindu and Christian communities.

SFI gave reaction
BJP’s Kerala president K Surendran alleged that some people were trying to intimidate the college principal for not allowing namaz to be offered. Extremists were behind such acts. He claimed that such people were supported by the Left and Congress parties. Meanwhile, the SFI, the student wing of the ruling Communist Party of India (Marxist), said that Sangh Parivar organisations were trying to blame it for the protests inside the college campus. SFI state secretary PM Arsho said that the organisation was not a part of any protest.
