New Delhi. The name of female contractor will always be etched in the minds of cricket lovers. Many of you must have heard the name of Nari Contractor, the former captain of the Indian cricket team. He is the unlucky captain of India, whose career ended in just a second. Born in the year 1934, a Test match played between India and West Indies for Nari Contractor proved to be the last for the then captain of the Indian team. After this match, he could never play for India. By then Nari had led India in ten Test matches, he was not only the team’s leading batsman but also opening the innings and there was no doubt about his ability to play fast bowling.
One ball had ended career
Nari Contractor is said to be such an unlucky Indian star in the cricket world, who also had talent, got a chance, but luck did not support him. Team India was on a tour of West Indies in the year 1961-62, which proved to be the last tour for Indian captain Nri Contractor. Something happened to him during this match, after which he could never play a match for the Indian team. In fact, in the second match of the series played in Kingston, he was hit on his head by a bouncer from West Indies fast bowler Charlie Griffit. Because of that one ball, the woman had to lose her career.
Nari Contractor remained unconscious for 6 days after being hit on the head. His life was in danger for several hours. He had lost a lot of blood. Apart from the Indian players, the Caribbean captain also gave him his blood. His life was saved but his career ended forever.
Today is the 80th birthday of the then captain of the Indian team, Nari Contractor. He was born on 7 March 1934. He was crazy about cricket from the beginning and played the first test match for India in 1955, which was played against New Zealand. But in 1958-59, he came into limelight with an innings of 92 against West Indies. After this, Contractor also made a mark in the tour of England in 1959. The major accident may have physically injured Nari Contractor, but she was mentally restless to return to the cricket field.
Two years later, when he was match fit, he started playing first-class cricket. But despite all the efforts, he could not get a chance again in Team India. In his Test career, this former India captain ended his career with 1611 runs in 31 Tests. However, he scored a lot of runs in his first class career. But unfortunately his international career was put to an end by that injury.
