New Delhi. Congress leader Rahul Gandhi is to appear before the Enforcement Directorate (ED) this morning in the National Herald and Young Indian case. Earlier, Rahul Gandhi was to appear before the ED on June 2, but he had sought time saying that he was abroad. This case is related to Money Laundering Act. The ED had registered a case by saying that the method of investing money in the National Herald and then withdrawing it through an organization named Young Indian, was a violation of the rules. Rahul Gandhi, his mother Sonia Gandhi, Congress leader Motilal Vora and Oscar Fernandes were the shareholders in Young Indian. Vora and Fernandes were also made accused, but both have passed away.
Meanwhile, the Delhi Police has not allowed the Congress to take out a protest march to the investigating agency during the ED appearance of Rahul Gandhi. Delhi Police has made it clear that in view of the law and order situation and the prevailing communal situation, Congress leaders cannot be allowed to march. The police have asked Congress leaders to cooperate. In such a situation, if there is an attempt to forcibly take out a march on behalf of the Congress, then there is a lot of possibility of clashes with the police.
On the other hand, Sonia Gandhi, an accused in this case, is admitted to Delhi’s Sir Ganga Ram Hospital due to corona. He too was called by the ED for questioning on June 8. A day before this, Sonia came to know of corona. Then he had sought three weeks’ time from the investigating agency. After this, the investigating agency had given a new date of June 23 to Sonia. Now the suspense has deepened on whether Sonia Gandhi will appear before the ED on that date or not.
