Electricity workers will protest against the possible privatization of Purvanchal and Dakshinchal Electricity Distribution Corporations in Uttar Pradesh today at the nationwide level. Regarding this demonstration, vigilance has been increased on the offices and sub -stations of the electricity department across the state, while many organizations and farmer leaders have also announced support.
Electricity workers mobilized against privatization
Electricity department employees say that preparations to hand over the private hands of Purvanchal and Dakshinchal Vidyut Vitran Nigam are against the interests of common consumers. He claims that this will not only increase in electricity rates, but will also bring a crisis on employees’ jobs and facilities.
Employees of other organizations including All India Electricity Labor Federation, Uttar Pradesh State Electricity Council Junior Engineers Organization, Electricity Officer Federation will participate in the demonstration. Demonstrations will be held at all district headquarters and offices of Energy Corporation.
Support also received from farmers
This protest has also received support from farmers. Dr. Darshan Pal, National President of Revolutionary Farmers Union, issued a statement saying that,
“Privatization of electricity is going to be another burden for farmers and agricultural laborers. We fully support this movement of electricity workers and appeal to the farmers to support them in this struggle.”
Dr. Pal also said that the arrival of private companies will make it difficult to reach the villages and fields, which will affect agricultural work.
Administration vigilant, advice for vigilance to the general public
The administration and police department is on alert mode in view of the protest. Control rooms have been activated in all districts to deal with any emergency. The state government has appealed to the general public not to be cautious about temporary disruption in power supply and do not get involved in the dispute unnecessarily.
