Congo Heavy Rain And Landslide: The havoc of nature has been seen in Congo. The situation has worsened after heavy rains in south-west Congo. At least 15 people have died in landslides caused by rain and about 60 people are reported missing. Local officials gave information about this. Seven people have been found alive after a landslide not far from the port near the town of Idiofa, local officials said. Local official Dhedhe Mupasa said, “There is a hill ahead of the port and due to the rain, the soil of the hill slipped, this has caused a major accident.”
Search for missing people continues
The province’s interim governor, Fleisin Kiwe, told reporters that a team sent to search for the missing found seven people alive and admitted them to hospital. He said that 60 people are still missing. A local official said that it is difficult to tell the exact number of missing people because a market was held at this place every Saturday. The official said that this area is a kind of port, where fishermen come to sell fish.
Devastation seen before
Even before this, the havoc of rain and landslides has been seen in Congo. Last year also in the month of December, heavy rains wreaked havoc in Congo. 14 people were killed in a landslide that occurred after torrential rains in Bukavu city here. Earlier in December, torrential rains in northwestern Congo triggered landslides in September, killing at least 17 people. (AP)
