Biju Janata Dal has suffered a crushing defeat from BJP in the Odisha assembly elections. In the Odisha assembly elections, BJP has defeated BJD and gained power in the state. Meanwhile, a statement by Biju Janata Dal President Naveen Patnaik has come to light. He said that it is unfortunate to criticize VK Pandian for the party’s defeat in the state assembly elections, as he has done a ‘great job’. Patnaik, who has been the Chief Minister of Odisha five times, reiterated that Pandian, who came from Tamil Nadu and turned from a bureaucrat to a politician, is not his successor. He further said that the people of Odisha will decide who will be his successor. Naveen Patnaik said on Saturday that the decision of the people should be accepted humbly. He also said that he will continue to serve the people of Odisha in every possible way.
‘He is an honest man, he should be punished for that’
The BJD president said, “It is unfortunate to criticise Pandian. He joined the party but did not hold any post. He did not contest elections from any constituency. Whenever I was asked about my successor, I have always clearly said that he is not Pandian. I reiterate that the people of Odisha will decide my successor.” Patnaik further said, “As an officer, he (Pandian) has done excellent work in various fields in the last 10 years, whether it was during two cyclones or during the Covid-19 pandemic. After this good work, he retired from bureaucracy and joined the BJD and contributed to the party by doing excellent work. He is an honest person and he should be remembered for this.”
Naveen Patnaik’s statement came after some party leaders and workers criticised Pandian for BJD’s defeat in the election. Talking about his health, Patnaik said, “I want to tell you that my health has always been good and will remain so in future too. You must have seen that I campaigned vigorously even during the scorching heat last month and this is enough to give information about my health.”
‘4.5 crore people of Odisha are my family’
Talking about the BJD’s defeat in the assembly elections, Patnaik said, “I think we have always tried and done a great job. We have a lot to be proud of in our government and party. In democracy, you either win or lose.” He said, “When we are defeated after a long time, we should always accept the people’s decision with humility. I have always said that the 4.5 crore people of Odisha are my family. I will continue to serve them in every possible way.” He expressed gratitude to the people of Odisha and said that they have repeatedly given me their blessings.
