The NBDA, which is a self-controlled body of major news and digital broadcasters in India, has taken this decision at a time when many YouTube channels and social media accounts in Pakistan have been blocked to spread anti-India fake news. The Ministry of Information and Broadcasting blocked several YouTube channels and websites operated from Pakistan in 2022 and 2023, spreading false information affecting India’s national security, foreign relations and public system.
NBDA believes that the presence of Pakistan’s panelists can provide platform to elements in Indian news debates that promote anti -India agenda. Therefore, NBDA has urged its members not to invite such panelists to their programs.
However, this decision may be considered controversial in terms of freedom of expression by some people and fairness of journalism. But NBDA argues that this step is necessary to protect India’s sovereignty and social harmony.
This decision can be a significant turn for the Indian media, where strict steps are being taken to protect national interests. However, it is also necessary that there is a balance in such decisions so that freedom of expression and fairness of journalism remains.
