New Delhi. Olympic champion javelin thrower Neeraj Chopra on Friday created another history and also achieved a historic feat. Neeraj Chopra has won the Lausanne Diamond League 2022 title. With this he has become the first Indian to win this league. Neeraj Chopra won the Lausanne Diamond League with his first throw of 89.08m. Recently, Neeraj had given India a silver medal in the World Athletics Championships. In 2003, he became only the second player to do so after Anju Bobby George. In the final, Neeraj threw the javelin to a distance of 88.13 meters and won the silver medal.
did not participate in the Commonwealth Games
Neeraj Chopra was injured during the Javelin final in the World Athletics Championships. In the final, Neeraj was also seen with a bandage wrapped around his thigh. Now due to the same injury, Neeraj could not be a part of the Commonwealth Games. Neeraj, who won the gold medal in the 2018 Commonwealth Games, could not participate in 2022 due to his injury.
Diamond league title
Neeraj Chopra, a resident of Khandara village near Panipat in Haryana has become the first Indian to win the Diamond League title. Before Neeraj, discus thrower Vikas Gowda is the only Indian to finish in the top three in the Diamond League meet. Gowda had finished twice in 2012 in New York, second in Doha in 2014 and third in 2015 in Shanghai and Eugene on two occasions. While Tokyo Olympic silver medalist Jacob Wadlejsch finished second with a best throw of 85.88m, while USA’s Curtis Thompson finished third with a best effort of 83.72m.
