Hubli: The father of 23-year-old Faiyaz, who allegedly murdered the daughter of a Congress councilor in a college campus in Hubli, has apologized to the victim’s family and demanded the harshest punishment for his son. School teacher and Faiyaz’s father Baba Saheb Subani told the media on Saturday that he came to know about the incident at around 6 pm on Thursday and he was completely devastated by his son’s actions.
He said with tearful eyes, “He (Faiyaz) should be punished in such a way that no one in future would dare to do such a thing.” With folded hands, I apologize to Neha’s family members. She was like my daughter.” Subani said he and his wife have been living separately for the past six years and Faiyaz lived with his mother and would call her whenever he needed money.

Father had talked 3 months ago
He last spoke to his son about three months ago. Faiyaz’s father said that about eight months ago, Neha’s family had called him and informed him that their son was harassing Neha. Accepting his son’s mistake, he said that Faiyaz and Neha loved each other.
He said, “Faiyaz had told me that he wanted to marry her but I had refused him with folded hands.” Condemning his son’s act, Faiyaz’s father said that no one should do such a thing against women. Torture should not be done. Crying, he said with folded hands, “I request the people of Karnataka to forgive me.” My son has done wrong. The law will punish him and I will welcome it. My city has been tarnished because of my son. People of Munavalli (Fayyaz’s home town), please forgive me.
Demonstrations are taking place in Karnataka regarding punishment
Neha’s family is demanding that the accused be given death penalty only then their daughter’s soul will find peace. The family members said that their daughter had no relation with Faiyaz and the accused stabbed Neha with a knife because she had rejected Faiyaz’s love proposal. Demonstrations have been held in many parts of the state demanding death penalty for Faiyaz.
The accused was immediately arrested
Neha Hiremath (23), daughter of Hubli-Dharwad Municipal Corporation Congress councilor Niranjan Hiremath, was allegedly stabbed to death on the premises of BVB College on April 18. She was a first year MCA student while Faiyaz is her former classmate. According to a senior police officer, Faiyaz allegedly stabbed Neha several times with a knife. During interrogation, he claimed that there was a love affair between the two but Neha had been ignoring him for some time. The police officer said that the accused was immediately arrested.
