Kathmandu: Nepal’s newly elected Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli has now followed the path of Maldives President Mohammad Muizzu. He is also going to break the old tradition and visit another country instead of India. It is being said that KP Sharma Oli may possibly go to Thailand for his first foreign trip, which will break the tradition of visiting a neighboring country first. However, in the past, other Prime Ministers of Nepal have mostly visited India first, although some have also visited China.
Similarly, Maldives President Mo. Muizzu also broke tradition after becoming President and first gave priority to China instead of India. According to official sources, Prime Minister Oli will visit Thailand in the first week of September to attend the BIMSTEC (Bay of Bengal Initiative for Multi-Sectoral Technical and Economic Cooperation) summit. An aide of Oli said that the Prime Minister will visit Thailand in the first week of September as part of his first foreign trip to attend the BIMSTEC summit, although the details of the visit are yet to be finalized.

The leaders of BIMSTEC member countries, including Bangladesh, Bhutan, India, Myanmar, Nepal, Sri Lanka and Thailand, are meeting in Bangkok in the first week of September to attend the summit. Prime Minister Oli will travel to the US in the third week of September to attend the United Nations General Assembly.
