The US embassy wrote in a Facebook post – ‘Propaganda and propaganda have had dire consequences throughout history. Propaganda by governments threatens the democratic system, sparks wars, and spreads violence. This has led to mistrust of facts, science, and credible journalism.
Earlier, two American officials gave an interview to the newspaper Kathmandu Post here and gave America’s side in this regard. But that has not helped much in creating a conducive environment for the MCC agreement. Here such videos are becoming increasingly viral on social media, in which it is said that American help is a ploy to trap Nepal in its net. While the US says that this is only an economic aid, which has been offered in view of America’s long relationship with Nepal.
Observers have pointed out that the US is working hard to convince the Nepalese public of this. Recently, the Nepalese Embassy in Kathmandu called a meeting of media experts from Nepal. Now in another post, the embassy has written – In the next few weeks we will discuss about this propaganda and how people are being fooled by it.
To implement the agreement with MCC, its approval in the Nepalese Parliament is necessary. But this process has not been completed till now. MCC has now fixed February 28 as the deadline to complete this process. Nepal’s Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba is a supporter of this help lane. But the two communist parties in the ruling coalition led by his Nepali Congress are strongly opposing it.
Analysts say Deuba is under deep political pressure over the issue. There is a general opinion that if he takes any risk, his government may fall. That is why after announcing to bring the approval motion in Parliament, he backed out from it. A meeting of the leaders of the five parties involved in the ruling coalition was held on Thursday and Friday to reach a consensus in this matter. But they did not agree. Now the next such meeting has been called on Sunday.
Meanwhile, Deuba is also in constant touch with former Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli to garner support on the approval motion. But experts say that if the resolution is passed with the support of the Oli-led Communist Party of Nepal (UML), then the disintegration of the ruling alliance will be certain.
