UPI Payment Scam
A new type of fraud has been discovered in the name of UPI payment. If you also make UPI payment, then you need to be careful of this type of fraud. Scammers are constantly coming up with new ways to trap people in their net. People are being cheated sometimes in the name of gift, sometimes in the name of delivery and sometimes in the name of prize money. A user has shared information on X about this fraud done in the name of UPI payment.
This is how they are cheating
The user has shared a video from the handle X, in which the scammer, claiming to be a bank representative, asks to update the KYC of the account. For this, a link is sent and asked to visit a specific website. After visiting the website, the user gets the option to enter the UPI PIN.
Although the user understands this scam and does not enter the PIN, there are many users who can easily be trapped by cyber criminals. Using this new scam shown in this video, scammers can cheat many users. Scammers use fake numbers for this type of cheating.
How to avoid it?
- According to the guidelines of the Reserve Bank of India, never share your UPI PIN, password etc. with anyone. No bank asks for PIN, password, OTP etc. from any customer.
- To avoid fraud through UPI, never open any message or email or WhatsApp link coming from an unknown number.
- Scammers send payment accepting links through messages, as soon as you open the link you will get the option to make payment.
- Your wisdom is the biggest weapon to avoid any kind of fraud.
- Ignore calls coming in the name of bank KYC update, prize money, delivery, courier etc.
