New Delhi. Union Home Minister Amit Shah said on Monday that the Cyber Crime Coordination Center of the Ministry of Home Affairs (I4C) has launched a new e-georo FIR initiative to catch criminals at an unprecedented pace.
Amit Shah said in a post on social media platform X that it was launched as a pilot project for Delhi, it will automatically convert cyber financial offenses registered on new system, NCRP or helpline number 1930 into FIR. Initially it will be for a limit above Rs 10 lakh. The new system will accelerate the investigation, which will tighten cyber criminals, and soon it will be expanded across the country. He said that the Modi government is strengthening the cyber security structure to create cyber-safe India.
He said that this is an important step towards completing Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of ‘cyber safe India’.
The Union Minister, in the recent review meeting of the Cyber Crime Coordination Center of India (I4C), directed to implement this initiative keeping in mind the difficulties faced by the victims of cyber financial offenses to return the money.
The National Cyber Crime Reporting Portal (NCRP) and the National Cyber Crime Helpline Number 1930 have enabled easy reporting and quick action of complaints related to cyber financial offenses. The new process launched includes the I-FIR system of the I-FIR system of the I-FIR system and the Criminal Tracking Network and System (CCTNS) of the I-FIR system of the Delhi Police and the National Crime Records Bureau (NCRB).
Now complaints related to financial loss of more than Rs 10 lakh on NCRP and helpline number 1930 will automatically be registered as zero FIR at the e-crime police station in Delhi. It will be immediately sent to the concerned regional cyber crime police stations. The complainants can go to the cyber crime police station within three days and convert zero FIR into a regular FIR.
The Delhi Police and the Cyber Crime Coordination Center (I4C), the Ministry of Home Affairs has worked together to establish a process for registration of cases as per new provisions of Section 173 (1) and 1 (ii) of the Indian Civil Protection Code (BNSS). The process of electronically issuing FIRs will initially start as a pilot project in Delhi without paying attention to the regional jurisdiction.
Later it will be implemented in other states and union territories. Delhi’s e-crime police station has been notified to register an e-FIR for cyber crime complaints of specific nature registered on NCRP and transfer them to regional police stations.
This initiative will improve the process of converting NCRP/1930 complaints into FIRs, which will make easy recovery of the victims lost money and will make punitive action facilitated against cyber criminals. In this, the provisions of recently implemented new criminal laws have been availed.
