Varanasi. Some people have moved the court regarding another mosque in Varanasi, UP. An application has been made to the Civil Judge to offer prayers at the Dharhara Masjid and the Muslims to get it back to the Hindus. It has been said in the application that the place of Dharhara Masjid built on Panchganga Ghat was earlier a huge Vishnu temple. Its name was Bindu Madhav Temple. It is alleged that the Mughal ruler Aurangzeb built the mosque after demolishing that temple. It is also written in the application that at present this mosque is with the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI), but even after the ban, people of the Muslim community offer prayers here.
This case has been registered by the Civil Judge Junior Division under 225/2022. It is alleged that apart from the temple of Kashi Vishweshwar, other temples were demolished on the orders of Aurangzeb. Among them was the Bindu Madhav temple at Panchganga Ghat. In the application given in the court, it has been said that the Dharhara Masjid was built on top of the big platform of the temple. Mythological belief is that the Yamuna, Varuna and Saraswati rivers, other than the Ganges, meet secretly in the Ganges at Panchganga Ghat. The ancient name of this ghat is said to be Bindu Madhav Ghat. It is said that the temple of Bindu Madhav was built by Raja Man Singh of Rajasthan.
After the temple was demolished by Aurangzeb, a new temple of Bindu Madhav was built. It was built in the 18th century by Bhavan Rao, the representative of the ruler of Satara. This temple is compared to the Jagannath temple of Puri. People gather at Panchganga Ghat to take bath on Sharad Purnima and Kartik Purnima. After this the people of the current point Madhav temple have darshan. The old Bindu Madhav temple is also mentioned in Kashikhand of Skanda Purana.
